It's Wednesday. Batteries get paid for when they move power. A three month test in Texas asked whether they could be paid for when that power was clean.

The Big Story
Texas battery pilot matches clean power to data centers by the hour
A three month pilot on two esVolta batteries in Texas charged and discharged 9.2 GWh while issuing hourly time stamped certificates that moved a solar plant's clean attributes onto the batteries, so a data center's consumption could be matched to clean supply hour by hour rather than annually, Data Center Dynamics reported. Quintrace supplied the software, LevelTen Energy ran the registry, Google sponsored it. The pilot is finished; no product has been announced.
"When delivered at scale, this can support the financing and construction of more batteries and provide operators an incentive to dispatch for the environmental outcomes their customers are asking for, not just the ones that energy markets pay for today."
The assets are Anole, 240 MW and 480 MWh at Seagoville, and Burksol, 100 MW and 200 MWh in Dickens County.
Granular certificates carry an hourly time stamp, against the annual accounting conventional renewable credits use, so a buyer can claim clean supply at 8 p.m. rather than on average.
The structure pays a battery for when it discharges, a signal today's energy markets do not send.

EDF's Nuward is targeting ten small modular reactors across five European countries on a redesigned 400 MWe single unit layout, first construction in 2030 and first power in 2035, though the company calls those country talks discussions rather than commitments. World Nuclear News
US solar module production passed 100 GW cumulative in the second quarter, more than 70% of it added since the Inflation Reduction Act, with First Solar at roughly 39% of the total, according to Terawatt PV Research. pv magazine USA
Kodiak Gas Services signed a six year contract to deliver 76 MW behind the meter to a West Texas data center from about 40 reciprocating gas units, starting in the fourth quarter. The operator and its hyperscaler backer are unnamed. Data Center Dynamics
EDP has put several hundred megawatts of planned US onshore wind on indefinite hold, chief executive Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade told Semafor, a month after a judge ordered the Defense Department to resume processing blocked wind licences. Semafor
The Capital Stack
Morgan Stanley leads a €49 million bet on home battery automation
Morgan Stanley Investment Management's 1GT climate strategy led a €49 million Series E for Amber Electric, with E.ON joining, to carry the Australian company's battery automation platform into Europe. Amber passes real time wholesale prices to households and runs SmartShift, which dispatches rooftop solar, batteries and EVs against them. Amber says it already automates more than half of Australia's home battery fleet, putting a large asset manager into residential flexibility as an asset class.

Policy Watch
A federal judge ruled the EPA's August 2025 termination of Solar For All unlawful and ordered it vacated, RTO Insider reported, putting Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund money for residential solar back with the state and nonprofit administrators who built programs around it. The report names no court and no restart timeline. RTO Insider
The European Commission proposed a mandatory A to G rating for data centres, grading power usage effectiveness from 1.15 or better down to worse than 1.9, with water usage effectiveness alongside it. Parliament and Council have two months to scrutinise it; minimum standards are targeted for Q2 2027. EU data centres drew 68 TWh in 2024 and are projected at 114 TWh by 2030, making the grade a procurement signal before any standard bites. Enlit World
