The Big Story
Netze BW cuts rooftop solar grid approvals to five minutes

German distribution operator Netze BW now issues binding grid connection approvals for rooftop PV up to 15 kW in about five minutes, down from a 12-day manual average, pv magazine reported. The check runs on a digital grid model of lines, substations and customer connections that calculates available capacity.

❝

"The energy transition cannot be achieved with a single mouse click – but the right digital solutions can certainly speed things up significantly."

  • Since its late-July launch, the system has fielded more than 16,000 small-PV requests and sent more than 5,000 automated approvals.

  • Where capacity is critical, staff review the request and decide on reinforcement or another connection point.

  • Systems above 15 kW still get a manual review.

  • Netze BW plans to automate more connection processes; 99% of requests already arrive online.

The Capital Stack
Veckta raises $11 million to tell buildings whether onsite solar pencils out

San Diego's Veckta raised an oversubscribed $11 million Series A led by Origin Ventures, with VoLo Earth Ventures participating, Heatmap reported. Its platform models utility rates and incentives for a site to judge whether onsite solar and storage pencil out, then gathers comparable supplier bids. Veckta says it has analyzed roughly 34,000 customer sites and found 37% would see positive returns today, worth $3.1 billion in potential project value, and that customers have signed at 128 sites this year.
