It's Wednesday. The company that spent a decade perfecting the metal underneath solar panels has decided the interesting problem is the electronics standing next to them.

The Big Story
Nextpower bets inverters and batteries can absorb AI's millisecond load swings.
Nextpower, the tracker maker known as Nextracker until last fall, has bought its way into power electronics and storage. It acquired Spanish inverter manufacturer Zigor and its US subsidiary Apex Power, then Prevalon Energy, now renamed Nextpower Energy Storage. Latitude Media reports the company aims to scale Apex to 10 GW of US inverter capacity by next summer, without naming a site. The pitch to data centers is physical: AI training loads can spike or collapse inside milliseconds, and that swing damages transformers and gas turbines.
"An inverter [combined with] batteries is the right technology to solve that issue because it's hyper fast to discharge or charge. That's a use case no one was talking about three or four years ago."
Prevalon has completed 38 storage projects totaling 6 GW and is working on a 1.3 GW project with an unnamed Tier 1 hyperscaler, according to the company. That project is contracted, not operational.
Shugar said the US manufacturing strategy is meant to reduce project risk and strengthen supply chain resilience. Timing helps: the administration banned foreign power inverter imports on national security grounds in July.
The tracker backlog stands above $5 billion, up from $2.1 billion three years ago, against $300 million in storage. Storage is the small number the company is spending against.

Technology milestones from across the grid
Five from across the stack, one of them stopped by marine biology.
Amazon confirmed it owns GW Ranch, the 8,000 acre Pecos County, Texas site where Pacifico Energy holds permits for 7.65 GW of gas plus planned solar and storage, off-grid at first, with three data centers due in December. Engineering News-Record
Caterpillar posted $20.5 billion in quarterly revenue with power generation retail sales up 72%, and is restarting a 10 MW gas reciprocating engine line it shut in 2022, adding back 1.5 GW with Q4 shipments. Utility Dive
David Energy deployed 120-volt plug-in batteries across 21 New York City commercial kitchens with partner Wonder, cutting site electricity bills 3% to 5% and skipping the interconnection queue. pv magazine USA
Citicore broke ground on the first Philippine solar-plus-storage site wired into the distribution network instead of transmission, pairing 41 MWp of PV with 53 MWh of batteries. Energy-Storage.news
Three French reactors went offline after jellyfish clogged cooling water intakes, Reuters reported, a recurring fouling risk coastal nuclear fleets cannot solve. Reuters
The Capital Stack
Nvidia assembles a $500 billion financing bloc for AI infrastructure.
Nvidia has partnered with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR on a roughly $500 billion private credit and infrastructure program for AI data center buildout, according to Data Center Dynamics. It is the largest financing construct yet in the AI power complex, putting the chip vendor at the center of how the load gets funded, not only how it gets served. Terms were not detailed.

Australia's Clean Energy Finance Corporation committed a record AU$9.1 billion in the year to June 30, pushing lifetime project value past AU$105 billion, a benchmark for a national green bank at scale. Energy-Storage.news
Policy Watch
Indiana's removed utility regulator is suing Governor Mike Braun over his ouster, which followed the commission's approval of an AES Indiana rate increase. The suit tests how far a governor can reach into a nominally independent commission, and developers pricing Midwest rate case risk are watching. Indiana Capital Chronicle
Pennsylvania enacted SB 349, requiring decommissioning plans for ground-mounted solar of 2 MW and larger, with no recycling mandate. Decommissioning bonds are becoming a standard line in solar pro formas, and the states writing rules now set the cost basis for the next decade. pv magazine USA
Chart of the Day
Federal emergency orders have kept seven fossil plants past retirement, at roughly $430 million so far.

Six coal units and one oil and gas unit run on federal orders, several over 50 years old. R.M. Schahfer's repairs alone could exceed $1 billion through 2027, and Stanton Unit 1 could add $21 a month to bills.
